HISTORY OF THE CHURCH OF PAKISTAN

The Church of Pakistan was started by a layman pastor, Peter Daniel, who was working in Bahrain as an engineer. He and an American Christian brother did ministry among the Pakistani and Indian people. During this time Brother Daniel served as the translator. Peter Daniel's son was the Bishop of the Church of Pakistan, Bishop Rehmat Daniel. By 1976 Bishop Daniel became a full time pastor.Bishop Daniel's son Bishop Jonathan Rehmat The grandson of Peter Daniel is a third generation Christian - incredible in a land so hostile to Christianity.

WONDERFUL RESULTS

Bishop Rehmat Daniel, has raised up and organized over 200 churches for the Church of Pakistan since 1977.   As a result of his dedicated labor and the faithful work of many people, the Church has a voice in almost every city in Pakistan! More than 26,000 people attend these churches.  This is a tremendous miracle because only 2% of the population of Pakistan is Christian. Of the 150 million population, 97% are Muslim. It is only by the grace of God that the Church is strong and well established in Pakistan.

Editorial Brief

Bishop Jonathan Rehmat, General Overseer of the Church of God Pakistan, just completed a wonderful fact sharing trip to America. Several churches and ministries were part of this important effort.
Brother Jonathan, shared challenging stories/facts about what the Lord is doing in his country. The church in America is not well informed about the plight of their Christian brothers and sisters in Pakistan - a 97% Muslim controlled country. This trip was the beginning of a long term goal to get the news out about the church in Pakistan.
Several future trips are planned with the goal of building long term relationships with American Christians. A strong base of prayer and financial help is critical for the work in Pakistan.

Christians are often the last person hired for employment, there are a limited number of manufacturing companies in Pakistan, most of the people work as farmers agriculture: 42% cotton, wheat, rice, sugarcane, fruits, vegetables; milk, beef, mutton, eggs industry: 20% services: 38% (2004 est.).
Brother Jonathan, shared his vision of planting dairy farms in several areas to financially support Pastors and schools.

Because of diabetes Bishop Daniels has had both legs amputated above the knee. Deciding that a wheel chair is not a fit vehicle for a man of the cloth, Bishop Daniels had himself fitted with two artificial legs and he went back on the streets walking on his own two (bought and paid for) legs to preach the gospel. Bishop Daniel went to his reward Jan 17th 2007.

"Serving Jesus In A Muslim World"

To be a Christian in Pakistan is a serious undertaking. There is a certain amount of religious freedom in Pakistan it is the official policy of the government.
